Alberta 

Since 2007, ISTPCanada has worked with Alberta Enterprise & Advanced Education (AEAE) and Western Economic Diversification Canada (WED) to promote the development of R&D partnerships between companies and researchers in Alberta with counterparts in China, and support the continued growth and economic development of the province.

Please find a summary of key outcomes as of March 31, 2010 below:  

• Alberta-based applications submitted to Canada-China Calls for Proposals: 68
• Alberta-China projects and PDAs selected by ISTPCanada for funding: 10
• Seminars and visits to Alberta-based companies to promote funding opportunities: 12 events engaging more than 220 total participants
• Total value of the Alberta-China R&D project portfolio: CDN $10 million
• Total investment by AEAE into Alberta-China projects: CDN $400,000
• Leverage of $9.5 dollars on every $1 invested in joint R&D projects by the Government of Alberta
• Total investment from WED in Alberta-China projects: $400,000
• Total anticipated return on project investment following the first five years of commercialization: CDN $60 million  

Building on achievements to date, ISTPCanada was selected to implement the $9 million Alberta Global Technology Fund (AGTF) in early 2010. This will enable the organization to deliver increased value to stakeholders in Alberta, increase the visibility of its national program in the province, and establish stronger relationships with researchers, companies and other innovators in this region. It will also help to stimulate an increase in the number of qualified applications from Alberta going forward, and boost the number of innovators from the province who contribute to Canada-China R&D projects.
