Global Innovation and Technology Alliance (GITA) / Department of Science and Technology (DST)
In 2007, the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) promoted the development of the Global Innovation and Technology Alliance (GITA). GITA develops, delivers and promotes international industry R&D programs in India, with a focus on results and opportunities to increase participation from industry and academia. The organization aims to enhance the competitiveness of Indian industry and institutions through collaborative R&D, technology transfer and joint ventures.
Since 2007, ISTPCanada and GITA/DST have jointly funded four Canada-India R&D projects and partnership development activities in alternate energy and sustainable environmental technologies, biotechnology, health research and medical devices, earth sciences and disaster management, ICT and nanotechnology.
Department of Biotechnology (DBT)
In 1986, the Government of India established the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) to fuel the development of the field of modern biology and biotechnology in India. Deeply involved in India’s scientific community, DBT contributes to the development of technical task forces, advisory committees and individual experts, as well as the development, implementation and monitoring of life science R&D programs. DBT has propelled the growth and application of biotechnology in agriculture, health care, animal sciences and the environment.
Since 2007, ISTPCanada and DBT have jointly funded four Canada-India R&D projects, and collaborated on multiple partnership development activities including the Canada-India B2B Partnership Summit in Life Sciences.
