China Program OverviewChina has made a heroic and historic decision to build its economic and social future on substantive investments in learning, science and technology development – a decision that will have profound impact in Canada and around the globe. It will also significantly influence how China opens up to the world and how it selects its economic partners. As one of the largest and fastest growing economies in the world, it is imperative for Canada to seize this opportunity with China. Through ISTPCanada’s implementation of the Canada-China Science and Technology (S&T) Cooperation Agreement, our nation has affirmed its commitment to be an ideal S&T partner by building a strong platform for bilateral alliances, and actively investing in mutually beneficial R&D collaboration. The purpose of this agreement is to encourage, develop and facilitate cooperative activities between Canada and China in science and technology (S&T) for peaceful purposes in fields of common interest and on the basis of equality and mutual benefit. Within the context of this S&T framework, ISTPCanada, the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) of the People’s Republic of China and the China Association for International Exchange of Personnel (CAIEP), have established and implemented a world-class model of bilateral R&D collaboration.
